This is a Follow-up from a previous blog called Bulb Exposure, you can read it here.

Never make the same mistake, right? Oops, I think I just did… This week I was passing a field with fantastic purple tulips. I was on my way to check out another location but was very happy to see that the field was in full bloom with amazing tulips so I made a mental note to myself to return soon. Two days later an opportunity occurred and the weather was promising! So I grabbed my gear and off I went. Just like last year I was to late! The tulips had been topped and all that remained of their colour and splendour were the awkward leftovers…
At this point I could have tried my luck at a different location but I decided to go for it anyway. Nature was about to start her fireworks in the sky so there wasn’t much time to reconsider.
After weeks of shooting in far from ideal situations the light was fabulous! To bad the tulips weren’t. But the results still are quite interesting and I got a lot of ‘keepers’ from this little excursion…
This was the perfect situation to finally put my newly aquired circulair polariser to the test. And I’m very happy with how it performed! This was what i’ve been looking for for some time now, the colours popped immediatly and the tones are clear. Happy with it! Anyway back to the tulips…

Here’s an iPhone shot of my setup.

Dejavu Situatie
By looking to al lot of Tulip-shots it made me want to try to mix stuff a little. So I experimented a lot with different points of view and compositions. Working the scene as they might say, varying from very low and close to a more reserved and distant look. Some of them worked really well for me while others just don’t reach out to me as much.

It was quite satisfying to finally be out again and get to use fantastic light, instantly turning potential dull pictures into little gems of colour and contrast. Goes to show that good light makes a good photograph! Anyway on to next year and three time’s a charm right?

Stuff that I used: Stuck on Earth iPad App, Nikon D90, Sigma 10-20 HSM, Tripod, Stealth Gear Circular Polariser, Filter Holder, Hitech ND 0.9 hard grad, remote release and a bubble level.

Here are a couple of my favorites. Pleas let me know in the comments below what you think, would love to get your opinion!
